An ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION study of traffic and other improvements to MacArthur Boulevard has been completed, according to an update from the MacArthur Boulevard Association. IDOT held an initial public meeting on the study of traffic and other improvements in January 2014 at South Side Christian Church.

A public hearing is expected on the results.

The MacArthur Boulevard Association and seven neighborhood associations recently sent a letter to Kroger Co. on the status of a Ruler Foods store planned on the site of the former Esquire Theatre at MacArthur Boulevard and South Grand Avenue. There still is no word on construction plans, and Ward 7 Ald. Joe McMenamin told an association meeting on Thursday that Kroger has yet to close on the property purchase.

DOLLAR GENERAL, meanwhile, has started construction on the Esquire site. Association president Michael Higgins told the Thursday meeting that Dollar General is planning nearly twice the landscaping required in city ordinances.
